By its very nature, lying is to be condemned. It is a profanation of speech, whereas the purpose of speech is to communicate known truth to others.Reflection: The Catechism suggests that the whole point of speech organs is to pass on the truth to others. This does not rule out humor, son, or story, for the best of these contain deep abiding truths.
